This qualification provides participants with the technical skills and knowledge to work as a qualified carpenter on both residential and commercial construction sites. If so completion of this qualification will provide you with the opportunity to become a recognised tradesperson.
According to the Australian Government’s Job Outlook service, future growth is strong for those in construction management roles, ensuring the skill learned in this qualification will be in high demand. The average salary for this role within Australia is estimated between $40,000 to $90,000; however the earning potential for qualified carpenters is strong with higher level carpentry jobs paying over $150,000.
Upon completion of this qualification, students will have the knowledge and skills required in areas such as reading plans and calculating measurements; constructing floor, wall, ceiling and roof frames; installing roof trusses; eaves; cladding and linings; demolishing; setting out; levelling construction sites; and working with formwork and concrete. This qualification is highly regarded in the Building and Construction industry, and is a pathway enabling you to progress towards owning your own business and becoming a registered Builder.
Successful completion of this qualification and the approved Managerial Course is the minimum requirement for applying for a Trade Contractor – Carpentry License. Students must be 18 years or older and will be required to demonstrate the required level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills.
Whilst there is no formal pre-requisite required to enrol into this qualification, it is beneficial for students to have some relevant industry experience working in a managerial position within the workplace. This may have been obtained through formal and/or informal training, work experience and life experience.
To ensure that this is the most suitable qualification to achieve individual career goals, all applicants to this program will undergo a Pre-qualification Interview. In this interview we discuss career goals, assess eligibility, and discuss current knowledge and experience.
All students, who have two (2) or more years’ industry experience, are offered a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Assessment. This RPL Assessment process is undertaken by a qualified industry experienced Trainer and Assessor who will measure each student’s current knowledge and experience against the performance criteria of the qualification. Should individuals have already acquired knowledge and skills considered within the learning criteria of this qualification, they may not need to complete all units of competency within the qualification. As a result, if an application for RPL is successful, a student may:
